Herko Trucks rushes through the paperwork to start manufacturing urban trucks in Bizkaia

The NKS approval of its Herko Bios35 model with a 100% Autogas/BioAutogas BeGas engine allows it to manufacture 250 units per year.

The Biscayan truck manufacturer Herko Trucks has obtained NKS short series approval for its Herko Bios35 model with a 100% Autogas/BioAutogas BeGas engine, allowing it to begin manufacturing at its plant in Abanto-Zierbana.

BILBAO. This approval allows it to manufacture up to 250 units per year at its facilities in Abanto-Zierbana, in a 7,600 square metre warehouse rented from Panattoni in the Abra industrial estate, near the Port of Bilbao.

The next step is to pass a COP (Production Conformity) audit by the UCA (Automotive Certification Unit), which certifies that production complies with all approved systems. This check must be renewed every year to verify that production continues to meet the same standards.

The Herko Bios 35 truck is presented as ‘the best eco-friendly solution for last-mile logistics fleet management’.

The approval of the Herko Bios35 is an important milestone for the team on the road to achieving its founding goal, which is to "help our customers decarbonise their urban truck fleets and achieve net zero emissions through BioAutogas, a fuel that is available now and for the future.

100% national capital

Agreement with Chinese company JAC Motors

Herko Trucks is collaborating with JAC Motors, a Chinese manufacturer of cars and commercial vehicles based in Europe, to promote the sale of environmentally friendly trucks and contribute to the decarbonisation of freight transport. This alliance includes an initial investment of more than €20 million for the industrialisation of Herko Trucks' heavy vehicle assembly plant in Abanto y Zierbena (Bizkaia).

This new infrastructure aims to exponentially increase the production of BioAutogas-powered trucks and expand the range of zero-emission vehicles that meet the most demanding standards in Spain and Europe. In addition, it will generate more than 150 direct jobs and more than 200 indirect jobs and will help promote economic development and the business fabric in the Basque Country.

As part of their internationalisation strategy, another key objective for both companies is to establish the brand in Italy, France, Turkey, Portugal, Poland and Germany, countries that already have a developed gas supply network capable of meeting the projected demand for vehicles.
